ANAEROBE 2010 - PROGRAM ANNOUNCED
The program for ANAEROBE 2010 -- to be held July 7-10, 2010 at the Sheraton Society Hill Hotel in Philadelphia, PA -- will consist of a Pre-Congress Workshop, 3-days of general oral sessions, and three sessions of poster presentations: Student Presentations (Thurs.), Poster Session I (Thurs.), and Poster Sesson II (Fri.).

Registration is open for ANAEROBE 2010. Early registration and hotel reservation discount ends June 1, 2010.

ANAEROBE 2010 - CALL FOR POSTERS
Abstract Deadline Extended to February 28, 2010
The Anaerobe Society of the Americas is accepting abstract submissions for Poster Presentations for the ANAEROBE 2010 Congress. Submissions will be accepted for all aspects of anaerobic bacteriology related to human and animal infections, as well as ecological and energy potential. Awards will be presented for Best Poster Abstract.

ANAEROBE 2010 - RELMAN TO KEYNOTE
Dr. David Relman of Stanford University Medical School will be the Keynote Speaker at ANAEROBE 2010. His topic will be Clinical Implications of Disturbances in the Human Microbiome.

ANAEROBE 2010 - ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
The ANAEROBE 2010 Program Committee has announced that it will present its 2010 ASA Lifetime Achievement Awards to Dr. Dale Gerding and Diane Citron.

Dr. Gerding is Associate Chief of Staff for Research and Development at the Hines Veterans Affairs Hospital and Professor of Medicine at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, IL. He is known for his research on the epidemiology and prevention of Clostridium difficile disease, antimicrobial resistance, and antimicrobial distribution and kinetics.

Diane Citron is Associate Director of the R.M. Alden Research Laboratory in Santa Monica, CA. As one of the preeminent anaerobic bacteriologists in the United States, her broad range of research activities has included phenotypic, biochemical, and molecular identification of fastidious species, in vitro susceptibility testing, antimicrobial pharmacodynamic studies, and transport of clinical specimens. New species that she recognized and helped describe include Fusobacterium canifelinum, found in dog and cat bites in humans, Clostridium citroniae and C. aldenense. She is also known for conducting workshops on anaerobic identification and susceptibility techniques around the world.

CYNTHIA SEARS HONORED AT IDSA
Dr. Cynthia L. Sears, ASA President-Elect, was a featured speaker at at the Infectious Disease Society of the Americas Meeting, Oct. 29-Nov. 1, in Philadelphia, PA USA. Her topic was Bacteriodes frageilis and the Cancer Connection: A Rogue among Symbiotes.
