DR. SYDNEY FINEGOLD HONORED WITH ANAEROBE SYMPOSIUM & DINNER
The Anaerobe Society joins with the Infectious Disease Association of California to celebrate the 90th birthday of ASA's Founding President Sydney M. Finegold, M.D. This CME activity takes place Friday, August 12, 2011 at the Marina del Rey Hotel in Marina del Rey, CA USA and includes an Anaerobic Bacteriology Symposium, a Wine & Cheese Reception, and a Dinner & Birthday Celebration.

ANAEROBE 2012 - CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
ANAEROBE 2012 will be held June 26-July 1, 2012 in the San Francisco Bay Area, USA. A Pre-Congress Hands-On Workshop is being planned for July 26-27 at the University of Santa Clara in Santa Clara, CA. Congress sessions will be held June 28-July 1 at the Grand Hyatt in San Francisco, CA. Abstracts deadlines are December 31, 2010 for Oral Presentations and February 3, 2011 for Poster Presentations.

ANAEROBE 2010 - ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
The ANAEROBE 2010 Program Committee has announced that it will present its 2010 ASA Lifetime Achievement Awards to Dr. Dale Gerding and Diane Citron.
Dr. Gerding is Associate Chief of Staff for Research and Development at the Hines Veterans Affairs Hospital and Professor of Medicine at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, IL. He is known for his research on the epidemiology and prevention of Clostridium difficile disease, antimicrobial resistance, and antimicrobial distribution and kinetics.
Diane Citron is Associate Director of the R.M. Alden Research Laboratory in Santa Monica, CA. As one of the preeminent anaerobic bacteriologists in the United States, her broad range of research activities has included phenotypic, biochemical, and molecular identification of fastidious species, in vitro susceptibility testing, antimicrobial pharmacodynamic studies, and transport of clinical specimens. New species that she recognized and helped describe include Fusobacterium canifelinum, found in dog and cat bites in humans, Clostridium citroniae and C. aldenense. She is also known for conducting workshops on anaerobic identification and susceptibility techniques around the world.

CYNTHIA SEARS HONORED AT IDSA
Dr. Cynthia L. Sears, ASA President-Elect, was a featured speaker at at the Infectious Disease Society of the Americas Meeting, Oct. 29-Nov. 1, in Philadelphia, PA USA. Her topic was Bacteriodes frageilis and the Cancer Connection: A Rogue among Symbiotes.
