The Anaerobe Society of the Americas (ASA) and the Society for Microbial Ecology and
Diseases jointly hosted ANAEROBE
2014--June 28-July 1, 2014--at the Westin River North Hotel in Chicago,
IL USA.
ANAEROBE
2014 addressed both the clinical and microbiological aspects of
anaerobes, as related to human diseases, animal disease, and environmental
conditions. Mixing theory and practical applications, the Congress
consisted of invited speakers, oral presentations, and poster presentations,
representing work by nearly 600 researchers from 38 countries.
Congress
Program
The ANAEROBE 2014 program consisted of a Pre-
Congress
Workshop (see below), 16 general sessions of oral presentations, and 3
poster presentation sessions. There was also a Young Investigator's Competition, in
which finalists will be judged on oral presentations in front of their
posters.

Target
Audience
Researchers, clinicians, and technicians from around the world
are invited to attend and participate in this Congress to engage in
presentations, exchanges, and dialogue on issues related to the study of
anaerobes. We particularly hope to attract bench hospital technologists, by
offering a Pre-Congress Workshop on Anaerobic Identification and Susceptibility
Testing Methods.
Congress
Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be
able to:
_
Demonstrate knowledge of the latest developments in the
field of anaerobe research.
_
Apply new recommendations in the diagnosis, screening,
treatment, and prevention of clostridial, obstetric and gynecological,
periodontal, intestinal, and other anaerobic
infections.
_
Incorporate better utilization of the microbiology
laboratory into the delivery of patient care.
Pre-
Congress
Hands-On Workshop - June 28, 2014
The Pre-Congress Anaerobic Identification and Susceptibility Testing
Workshop is a 1-day virtual wet workshop, covering both classical and
advanced methods for identification and susceptibility testing of anaerobic
bacteriology. Details are forthcoming.
The
Setting
As Frank Sinatra
sings, Chicago is "one town that
won't let you down." And how can it, with world-renown museums,
cultural activities, zoos, shopping for all budgets, architectural
landmarks, and some of the finest restaurants in the world.

Contemporary Art, Vivian Maier
Photography at the Chicago History Museum, Jellies at the Shedd Aquarium, The Universe at Adler Planetarium, Earth Explorers at Museum of Science & Industry, and The Machine Inside: Biomechanics
& Wonders of the 1893 World's
Fair at the Field Museum.
Cultural events include music festivals (classical, country, indie rock,
and gospel) and theater performances of the Blue Man Group, Second City,
